History

The Henschel Hs 293H was a air to air missile Designed and developed by Henschel und Sohn in 1939 under the leadership of Dr.-Ing. Herbert Alois Wagner.

The Henschel Hs 293H was intended to be deployed against Allied bomber formations.

Continued development of the Henschel Hs 293 A-0 airframe led to the development of the Henschel Hs 293H this variant was intended to be controlled from two aircraft, the parent aircraft, which could be any of the following aircraft Do 217, He 111, He 177, Fw 200, Ju 290 Would launch the missile and make its escape, and control would be from the much faster and more manoeuvrable fighter and missile would be detonated in the path of Allied bomber formations, in which it was hoped that the blast effect would take out several enemy planes at once. As this missile was intended to function at a much higher altitude, a new engine had to be designed by Schmidding which resulted in the Schmidding 109-513 solid fuel rocket engine producing up to 610 kg of thrust being used to power Henschel Hs 293H.

The Designation Hs 293 H-1a was to have bin the production model but all further design work was abandoned in favour of dedicated air to air missile systems which have been designed from the ground up.
