One of
the Luftwaffe's principal fighters was the Messerschmitt 109's and Messerschmitt
110's, there were approximately 33,000 Messerschmitt 109 made during the war.
Which were designed by Willy
Messerschmitt and built by his company, which had a devastating effect on
Allied air forces at the beginning of World War II. The first major failure of
the Luftwaffe was the Battle of Britain although this was not down to the equipment.
It was more the case of bad leadership and tactics. As the war progressed, and
the Luftwaffe became increasingly outnumbered. They needed an edge in technology
and subsequently the Messerschmitt 262 was introduced, which was the very first
operational jet fighter in the world.
