The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Mosquitoes bombers raided
power station and railway workshops at Trier and Ehrang in
West Germany.
North Africa. Very heavy Allied air raid on EI Maou airfield
at Sfax.
In the Mediterranean. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers
made low-level raid on Messina.
In India. Thirty Japanese air force bombers attacking Feni,
Southeast Bengal, were intercepted by Hurricanes.
Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). During

March 1943 and
1
April 1943, Wellingtons bomb Bizerte docks and Karouba
Bay seaplane base. During day, A-20 Havoc light bombers bomb
La Fauconnerie and El Djem airfields. Fighters, carrying out
reconnaissance missions over wide areas of Tunisia, attack
motor transport, tanks, and guns in Sidi Mansour-Djebel Tebaga
area. British medium bombers, Light bombers, and fighters
hit gun positions North of Oued el Akarit and hit Sfax-El
Maou airfield.
Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40
fighters escort bomber missions. Medium bombers and Light
bombers hit parked aeroplanes and antiaircraft batteries at
El Maou airfields at Sfax.
Tenth Air Force. 16 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers bomb Maymyo railroad sheds. 8 others
hit railroad yards at Ywataung. 12 P-40 fighters intercept
9 Zeros near Lingling, claiming 7 shot down. 1 P-40 is lost.
Fourteenth Air Force. Japanese force of 9 fighters is intercepted
in Lingling area by P-40 fighters. 7 fighters are shot down.
1 P-40 is lost.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17
Flying Fortress heavy bombers attack convoy off Kavieng, airfields
at Gasmata and Cape Gloucester, and town of Madang. Flights
of from 1 to 3 medium bombers or heavy bombers hit several
other targets, mostly isolated shipping and coastline targets,
in Netherlands East Indies (NEI) and in Solomon Sea.
Thirteenth Air Force. 42 fighters (P-38 Lightning fighters
and Navy and Marine aircraft) are sent over the Russells to
intercept Japanese aircraft trying to hit United States stockpiles
on Guadalcanal, naval base at Tulagi, and the incomplete airstrips
in the Russells. The air battle lasts for nearly 3 hours.
6 United States fighters are lost, against claims of 20 Japanese
aeroplanes.
Eleventh Air Force. A joint directive by Commander-in-Chief,
Pacific (CINCPAC) and Commanding General Western Defence Command
orders preparations for LANDGRAB (invasion of Attu). 16 B-24
Liberator heavy bombers, 5 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers,
and 12 P-38 Lightning fighters sorties are flown against Kiska
from Adak and Amchitka. Targets include ship in Gertrude Cove,
North Head area, Main Camp and beach. Antiaircraft fire damages
2 bombers. Reconnaissance covers Kiska, Attu, Buldir, and
Semichis.
