The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers made night raid
on Lorient and St. Nazaire.
Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). United States Army Air
Force (USAAF) nine B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and A-20 Havoc
light bombers bomb airfields at La Fauconnerie.
Ninth Air Force. During
1-2
April 1943, The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Liberators,
under IX Bomber Command, bomb ferry terminal at Messina and
airfield at Crotone. During the day, 2 B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers on special mission bomb ferry terminals at Messina
and Villa San Giovanni. 24 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers sent
to attack Palermo abort because of heavy clouds over target.
27 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers sent against Naples find the
target totally obscured by clouds; 9 bomb the area through
overcast and 3 bomb Augusta and Crotone. P-40 fighters fly
9 armed reconnaissance and 6 Fighter Command and escort missions.
Tenth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers hit Thazi railroad junction.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20
Havoc light bombers hit Kitchen Creek area and Labiabi-Duali
area. Single B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack Salamaua,
Finschhafen, bridge at Rempi, and airfields at Gasmata and
Cape Gloucester.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-38 Lightning fighters and P-40 fighters attack and set fire
to a small cargo vessel in Kokolope Bay.
Eleventh Air Force. 18 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Kiska targets including
North Head. 6 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, 16 P-38 Lightning
fighters, and 24 P-40 fighters in 6 missions from Amchitka
to Kiska, bomb Main Camp and submarine base areas. 4 B-24
Liberator heavy bombers bomb runway at Attu. All aircraft,
including 2 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers colliding in the
air, return safely.
