Preliminary part of Malta Yalta conferences begin at Malta.

Ninth Air Force. Weather cancels bomber operations. Fighters fly night fighter and intruder reconnaissance missions. Fighter cover for United States 5th Armoured Division West of Gemund is recalled during the day.

Twelfth Air Force. Good weather in Po Valley permits full-scale operations against command lines. During 29-30 January 1945, intruding A-20 Havoc light bombers pound scattered movement much of it near Milan, several Po River crossings including at Borgoforte, Piacenza, and San Benedetto Po, harbour at La Spezia, and fuel dumps and other targets at many locations. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers effectively strike Brenner rail line during the day, especially Lavis and Trento marshalling yards and bridges at Lavis and Calliano. XXII Tactical Air Command fighters and fighter-bombers strike railroads and bridges in Northeast Italy cutting many lines and damaging several bridges, and hit fuel dumps and factories around Parma.

Fifteenth Air Force. For ninth successive day weather prevents bombing operations. During 29-30 January 1945, 13 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers drop supplies in North Italy. During the day P-38 Lightning fighters fly reconnaissance and reconnaissance escort and carry out supply missions and strafing attacks in Austria.

Tenth Air Force. 65 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) fighter-bombers support ground forces in Banwe, Yenya-u, Hsenwi, Molo, and Mongmit areas. 5 others knock out bridge East of Mong Long. 100 fighter-bombers attack troops, supplies, artillery, and command targets at several locations including Kutkai, Bawgyo, Hamngai, Namhsan, Naleng, Pangsari, Hsenwi, and Wengnan. Transports again fly over 500 sorties to forward areas.

Fourteenth Air Force. 27 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Hankow. 32 P-40 fighters and P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers support the heavy bombers. 8 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers hit targets in areas around Loyang, Yuncheng, and Sinantien.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). Bad weather cancels most of scheduled strikes over Luzon. However, B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Cavite while fighter-bombers flying support for ground forces hit artillery and troop concentrations Northeast of Labayug and others attack ammunition dumps North of San Isidro.

Seventh Air Force. 17 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Saipan bomb Iwo Jima airfield. 3 others bomb airfields on Woleai. 6 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Angaur strike Koror and Arakabesan. During 30-31 January 1945, 10 heavy bombers from Saipan fly single bomber snooper raids against Iwo Jima airfields.
