centre, Halle marshalling yard and targets including Bitterfeld
marshalling yard. 14 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers groups fly
close escort while a P-47 Thunderbolt fighters group patrols
Halle, Leipzig area. 11 groups later strafe road and rail
targets.
Ninth Air Force. 118 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
medium bombers and light bombers attack Ahrweiler rail bridge,
command centres at Glessen, Munstereifel and Monheim, and
a target. Fighters fly leaflet missions, attack Frankfurt
Main oil storage tanks, fly alerts, and strafe from West of
Duisberg to Worringen. XXIX Tactical Air Command also flies
support for XIII and XIX Corps South West and South of Monchen
Gladbach.
Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20
Havoc light bombers on
26-27
February 1945, bomb enemy movement at 14 different places
in Po Valley, marshalling yards at Villafranca di Verona and
Isola della Scala, town of bazzano, and airfields at Villafranca
di Verona and Ghedi. XXII Tactical Air Command fighter-bombers
concentrate on railroad cutting in Brenner area and Northeast
Italy, claiming 36 cuts, and attack rolling stock in Villach
area. Medium bombers destroy railroad diversion bridge at
San Michele all'Adige and cut approaches on Ala and Lavis
bridges and effectively blast Spilimbergo an Pagnocco dumps.
Fifteenth Air Force. 540 United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and B-17 Flying Fortress
heavy bombers, with fighters escort, bomb marshalling yards
at Augsburg, Salzburg, Lienz, and Jenbach, plus several targets.
Escorting fighters strafe targets during return flight. Routine
reconnaissance and supply mission continue.
Tenth Air Force. 18 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47
Thunderbolt fighters closely support ground forces in Mongmit
area. 4 others knock out small bypass bridge at Hay-ti. About
100 fighter-bombers attack troop concentrations, supplies
gun positions, elephant transport, road traffic along battle
fronts and behind enemy lines. Transport operations continue
on large-scale as 589 sorties are completed.
Fourteenth Air Force. 12 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers knock out bridges and damage
2 others in North Indochina. 12 others bomb Ishan and Hwaiyuanchen.
4 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers over Gulf of Tonkin and South
China Sea attack shipping, claiming two vessels sunk. 19 fighter-bombers
hit barracks South West of Ishan, 15 attack Kiungshan airfield,
12 hit targets in Yoyang area, 23 hit targets around Kiyang,
and 30 others hit scattered targets at other points in South
and East China.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, A-20 Havoc light bombers and
P-38 Lightning fighters strike Puerto Princesa in preparation
for the following morning's allied amphibious landings. On
Luzon ground support continues on large-scale. P-51 Mustang
fighter-bombers bomb Baguio. On Mindanao P-38 Lightning fighters
and United States Marine Corps (USMC) aircraft hit airfields.
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Tarakan and Jesselton airfields.
Takao is hit by B-24 Liberator heavy bombers. Fighters sweep
West coast of Formosa. Sweeping China coast, B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers hit fleet of junks and sampans near Hong Kong
destroying and damaging more than 25.
Twentieth Air Force. Personnel of 58th Bomber Wing (VH) begin
shipping out of Calcutta for Tinian and Guam, implementing
redeployment orders of

February 1945, War Department (WD) directive. Final shipment
arrives in the Marianas on

June 1945, completing transfer of the wing from India
without loss of a single life or aircraft. During 27-

February 1945, 10 B-29 Superfortress heavy bombers mine Johore

Seventh Air Force. 9 Guam based United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers blast pillboxes, artillery
emplacements, blockhouse, and mortar positions on North part
of Iwo Jima. 22 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Angaur bomb
Daliao and Libby airfields. During 27-

February 1945, 9 heavy bombers flying snooper strikes out
of Guam, bomb airfields, radio stations, and town of Omura.
