Eighth Air Force. By this date the flow of United States Army
Air Force (USAAF) P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers, B-17 Flying
Fortress heavy bombers, and B-24 Liberator heavy bombers replacement
aircraft has stopped and authorisation of 68 planes per bomb
group and 96 per fighters group is reduced to original 48
and 75, respectively.
Ninth Air Force. Weather grounds United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) 9th Bomber Division. Fighters fly sweeps, Air Force
cover, and armed reconnaissance, and attack airfields. Other
fighters fly air cover for United States XII Corps as 11th
Armoured Division reaches Czech border North of Bischofsreuth
and other elements move further into Austria toward Linz,
and support XX Corps as it receives surrender of Regensburg
and expands its Danube bridgehead.
Twelfth Air Force. Bad weather throughout North Italy holds
operations to a minimum. XXII Tactical Air Command fighters
and fighter-bombers operate during latter part of afternoon,
closely supporting ground forces in battle area North of Po
River, hitting guns, vehicles, railroads, train cars, and
Bergamo airfield as United States 1st Armoured Division spearheads
the drive to the North West.
Fifteenth Air Force. Bad weather cancels heavy bomber operations
and hampers fighters missions. 8 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers
and 2 P-38 Lightning fighters complete weather reconnaissance
missions. Other fighters sent on reconnaissance escort and
armed reconnaissance flights abort.
Tenth Air Force. 37 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-38
Lightning fighters and P-47 Thunderbolt fighters hit troop
concentrations in Wan Pong and Nawng Leng areas. 12 other
fighter-bombers sweep roads South of the bomb line. Transports
complete 408 sorties throughout the day, landing or dropping
618 tons of supplies at forward bases and front line areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 70 fighter-bombers attack
bridges, positions, villages and town areas, gun emplacements,
and river, road, and rail traffic at many points in South
and East China chiefly around Fantung.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attack Japanese installations
at Cabatuan, La-lo, and Garit Norte. A-20 Havoc light bombers
hit towns throughout the area. In South Luzon fighter-bombers
and A-20 Havoc light bombers hit targets East of Manila, in
Legaspi area, and at other scattered points. B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers hit Jesselton airfield and B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers bomb Tarakan Island. During
26-27
April 1945, B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's bomb Tansui
seaplane base. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Mandai airfield.
Heavy bombers hit Soerabaja.
Twentieth Air Force. Over 100 United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's strike airfields
at Izumi, Miyazaki, Kokubu, Miyakonojo, Kanoya, and Kushira.
Seventh Air Force. 11 Guam based United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Woleai.
Eleventh Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers drop fragmentation bombs on Kataoka
naval base. 1 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hits Minami Cape,
and another flies a radar ferret mission.
