125 9th Bomber Division bombers hit Plattling airfield. Fighters
escort 9th Bomber Division, fly Air Force cover, carry out
armed reconnaissance in Germany and Czechoslovakia, drop leaflets,
and co-operate with United States XII Corps as its forces
cross into Austria Southeast of Passau, and XX Corps as it
begins full scale assault across the Danube at Regensburg.
Fighters claim 19 combat victories.
Twelfth Air Force. During
25-26
April 1945, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) XXII Tactical
Air Command aircraft hit marshalling yards, airfields, motor
transport, and other command targets, mainly in North Po Valley.
Medium bombers complete 1 of 4 missions dispatched cloud obscures
3 targets, hitting Chioggia bridge and knocking out a span.
XXII Tactical Air Command fighters and fighter-bombers attack
enemy movement throughout afternoon, destroying over 150 motor
transport.
Fifteenth Air Force. 107 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb motor transport depot at
Tarvisio, and marshalling yards at Sachsenburg, Lienz, Spittal
an der Drau, and Klagenfurt all targets. 117 B-17 Flying Fortress
heavy bombers and 196 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, also dispatched
against targets in North Italy, abort due to bad weather.
155 fighters provide escort. 75 P-38 Lightning fighters and
102 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers fly armed reconnaissance
over North Italy. Of these, 12 P-38 Lightning fighters and
48 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers strafe targets. All of the
P-38 Lightning fighters dive-bomb rail-lines and road bridges.
16 other P-38 Lightning fighters dive-bomb North West part
of Alesso. Reconnaissance and reconnaissance escort and supply
escort missions by P-38 Lightning fighters and P-51 Mustang
fighter-bombers continue as usual.
Tenth Air Force. 30 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-38
Lightning fighters and P-47 Thunderbolt fighters attack troop
concentrations East of Vian Sing, at Naungtaw, and in Loilem
vicinity. Transports land or drop 553 tons of supplies at
forward bases and front line areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 2 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb docks at Hongay. 10 B-25
Mitchell medium bombers and 4 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters knock
out bridges near Wuchang and North of Taiku and damage bridge
near Kaifeng. 80 fighter-bombers blast troops, horses, road
and rail transport, tanks, gun positions, and targets at numerous
places in South and East China as the campaign against the
occupying Japanese intensifies.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Shanghai. B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers hit Heito sugar refinery and nearby targets.
P-38 Lightning fighters on sweep also hit several targets
of opportunity. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, A-20 Havoc light
bombers, and fighter-bombers continue to fly numerous sorties
in support of ground forces in North and South Luzon. B-24
Liberator heavy bombers join United States Marine Corps (USMC)
aircraft in pounding Cebu targets. Other B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers hit Miri airfield. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and
fighters hit targets on Tarakan Island.
Twentieth Air Force. 195 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's some escorted by fighters
of VII Fighter Command bomb airfields at Usa, Oita, Saeki,
Tomitaka, Imabari, Nittagahara, Miyazaki, Kanoya, Kokubu,
and Miyakonojo. Other very heavy bombers hit targets.
Seventh Air Force. 13 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Guam bomb Eten Island.
