B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound defences at Balikpapan
as Australian forces make amphibious landings. B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers, B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, and P-38 Lightning
fighters hit airfields at Oelin, Tabanio, and Trombol, and
bomb Tawau area. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Limboeng
and Mandai airstrips. Fighter-bombers hit troops and gun positions
in Kayan Tadian area.
Twentieth Air Force. 530 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's carry out incendiary attacks
on Ube, Kure, Shimonoseki, and Kumamoto. During

July 1945, 24 other B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's
mine Shimonoseki Strait and waters at Nanao and Fushiki.
Seventh Air Force. 2 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Guam bomb building concentration
on Marcus. 33 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, operating in two
flights from Okinawa, bomb Chiran airfield on Kyushu. 2 others
hit Yaku Island.
VII Fighter Command. 84 Iwo Jima based United States Army
Air Force (USAAF) fighters hit targets at Kasumigaura, Itami.
Hamamatsu, and Nagano.
Zone of Interior. Headquarters, Weather Wing is redesignated
Headquarters, Army Air Force Weather Service.
