and Krefeld, and 3 bridges at Wesel and Mannheim, along with
towns of Pforzheim and Barth and targets in the area. 6 fighters
groups fly close and freelance support.
Ninth Air Force. 146 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-26 Marauder medium bombers, A-26 Invader light bombers, and A-20 Havoc light
bombers bomb rail bridges and defended areas on Rhine and
Mosel Rivers and in West Germany near battlefront. IX and
XIX Tactical Air Commands escort medium bombers and light
bombers, fly armed reconnaissance, and attack Euskirchen marshalling
yard and town of Arloff.
Twelfth Air Force. Bad weather curtails operations. Light
bombers and medium bombers are grounded and fighters and fighter-bombers
fly only 14 sorties, 12 against command targets North of battle
area and 2 weather reconnaissance sorties.
Fifteenth Air Force. More than 300 United States Army Air
Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24
Liberator heavy bombers attack Moosbierbaum oil refinery and
marshalling yards at Graz, Furstenfeld, and Klagenfurt. 1
heavy bomber bombs Pula. P-38 Lightning fighters and P-51
Mustang fighter-bombers fly 270 sorties escorting heavy bombers.
Other P-38 Lightning fighters carry out reconnaissance and
reconnaissance escort missions.
Tenth Air Force. 28 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) fighter-bombers
support ground forces around Hosi and Molo. 12 B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers knock out Mong Pawn bridge. 8 P-47 Thunderbolt
fighters damage approach to Pa-mao bridge. 8 others hit Hsumhsai
airfield. 90 fighter-bombers hit troops, supplies, vehicles,
ferry crossing, and various targets at several locations including
Nauchye, Hsenwi, Man Pwe, Pongkalau, Nawng Mawn, Na-lang,
Kunhkan, and Panghtu-lin. 550 transport sorties are flown
to forward areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack shipping off Indochina
coast, claiming 1 cargo vessel sunk and a patrol boat damaged.
4 P-40 fighters attack division Headquarters South West of Yungning.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound Canacao peninsula and Cavite
areas. Targets include shipyard, seaplane base, command, and
supply. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Puerto Princesa.
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Okayama airfields during
31 January 1945
to 1 February 1945, and hit Okayama and Heito airfield and
Toko seaplane base during the following day.
Twentieth Air Force. 67 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's bomb the Admiralty IX Floating
Drydock and vessel berthed in it at Singapore navy yard. 21
other B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's bomb West Wall area
of the naval base. 21 others hit alternate targets at Martaban
and George Town.
Seventh Air Force. 21 Saipan based United States Army Air
Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Iwo Jima in
the afternoon, and 10 more, flying individual snooper raids,
hit the island during 1-
