(USAAF) heavy bombers, supported by 13 fighters groups, bomb
2 synthetic oil plants, 2 aircraft engine plants, 2 marshalling
yards, a tank factory and several targets in Central Germany.
Due to heavy fog a large percentage of the heavy bombers are
diverted to various landing fields in United Kingdom and on
Continent.
Ninth Air Force. 311 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
A-20 Havoc light bombers, A-26 Invader light bombers, and
B-26 Marauder medium bombers hit road and rail bridges, command
centres, motor transport repair centre, and other targets
in Germany. Fighters escort 9th Bomber Division and Eighth
Air Force heavy bombers, fly armed reconnaissance and defensive
patrols, and support United States First Army elements along
battle line Northeast of Houffalize, and III Corps along battle
line Southeast of Houffalize.
Twelfth Air Force. During
15-16
January 1945, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20 Havoc
light bombers exploit a break in the bad weather and blast
motor transport around Genoa and Northeast of Milan. During
the day bad weather returns, grounding medium bombers and
limiting fighter-bombers to 16 completed sorties against command
in Po Valley and Northeast Italy.
Fifteenth Air Force. Bad weather restricts operations to reconnaissance
and reconnaissance escort missions by 30 P-38 Lightning fighters.
Tenth Air Force. 12 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers attack troop concentration and supply
dump at Namtoi. 15 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters support ground
forces near Yenya-u and South of Shadaw. 22 bomb airfields
at Anisakan and Nawnghkio. Troop concentration, supplies,
town areas, vehicles, and other targets are attacked by 40
fighter-bombers. Transports fly 550 sorties to forward areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 8 P-40 fighters destroy train
North of Hankow. 8 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers pound Wanting.
180 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers, P-40 fighters, and P-38
Lightning fighters on armed reconnaissance over vast expanses
of China South of the Yangtze and from Burma border to South
China Sea attack numerous targets. Wanting, Muse, and Changsha
areas are hit especially hard.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). In the day's principal strikes
United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers, A-20 Havoc light bombers, and fighter-bombers pound
Japanese concentrations, trains, trucks, and targets on Luzon.
Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit airfields in North
Borneo and Halmahera Island. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers,
A-20 Havoc light bombers, and fighter-bombers on small raids,
armed reconnaissance, and harassing strikes hit Negros airfields
and airfields, command targets, trains, trucks, and other
targets throughout Luzon.

313th Bomber Wing(VH) flies shakedown mission. 32 of 44 B-29

Seventh Air Force. 10 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Guam bomb airfields on Iwo
Jima. 12 P-38 Lightning fighters from Saipan assigned to high
cover for the heavy bomber strike fail to make contact with
the formation due to bad weather. 3 of the fighters strafe
beached vessels. 3 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers fly snooper
strikes against Iwo Jima airfields during 16-
