Events On This Day

Eighth Air Force. Almost 1,300 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers attack marshalling yards at Dresden, Chemnitz, Magdeburg, and Hof, road bridge at Wesel, Dulmen oil depot 2 airfields, 10 town aras, and numerous targets. 16 fighters groups escort heavy bombers or fly area sweeps, strafe ground targets, and battle over 75 fighters, claiming 20 destroyed.

Ninth Air Force. 600 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20 Havoc light bombers, A-26 Invader light bombers, and B-26 Marauder medium bombers attack rail bridges, marshalling yard, command centres, ammunition dump, prime mover depot, and several targets in Germany in morning and afternoon missions aimed primarily at obstructing enemy movement and supply. Fighters fly armed reconnaissance over wide areas of Germany, escort 9th Bomber Division, attack river traffic, bridges, and other targets, and support United States Third Army elements East of Our and Sauer Rivers.

Twelfth Air Force. During 13-14 February 1945, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20 Havoc light bombers bomb bridge approach at Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and hit targets in Po Valley. During the day medium bombers bomb bridges or bridge approaches at San Michele all'Adige, Tarvisio, Bressanone, and hit guns near Ponte Gardena. Fighters and fighter-bombers, operating in poor weather, attack mainly command targets in Po Valley.

Fifteenth Air Force. Over 500 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Moosbierbaum, Lobau, Vienna, Floridsdorf, and Schwechat oil refineries in Vienna area, marshalling yards at Graz, Gleisdorf, Klagenfurt, Villach, Celje, Maribor, and Zagreb, and several scattered targets. P-38 Lightning fighters also bomb Moosbierbaum refinery and Maribor marshalling yard. Other P-38 Lightning fighters and P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers escort heavy bombers, fly photo and weather reconnaissance, and escort reconnaissance missions.

Tenth Air Force. 12 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attack vehicles along roads from Lashio to Takaw to Hopong. 7 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters strafe Laihka airfield. Bad weather cancels other scheduled offensive missions. Transports continue to operate despite the weather, completing 520 sorties to forward areas.

Fourteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47 Thunderbolt fighters bomb Kaifeng airfield and P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers hit Shihkiachwang airfield, destroying several parked aeroplanes. The P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers afterwards blast 7 locomotives between Puchou and Sinsiang. Other fighters destroy 7 more locomotives between Sinyang and Hsuchang, bomb railroad yards at Lohochai, and destroy fuel dump at Hsiangcheng.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers continue to bomb Corregidor, concentrating on dock area and gun positions. Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Mariveles and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb airfields at Tuguegarao. Medium bombers and fighters provide excellent support for ground forces, blasting guns and troops West of Clark Field, North of Marikina airfield, and North of Montalban. A-20 Havoc light bombers pound general area of South Bataan. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb barges at Zamboanga and P-38 Lightning fighters bomb Matina airfield. Fighters on armed reconnaissance strafe airfields on Negros and Cebu. A few medium bombers bomb Kagi airfield and nearby targets.

Twentieth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's from the Marianas again carry out reconnaissance mission for the Navy, covering area northward from base line at 28-02N 14555E to 28-44N 148-OOE.

Seventh Air Force. 17 Guam based United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound defences and radar and radio installations on Iwo Jima at midday. During 14-15 February 1945, 5 more heavy bombers, flying individual snooper missions bomb Iwo Jima airfield and antiaircraft positions while 4 in separate strikes hit Susaki airfield.

Eleventh Air Force. 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb and photograph Suribachi airfield secondary.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Platt.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Farningham.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Cranham.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Rawreth.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Canvey Island.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Camberwell.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Chislehurst / Sidcup.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Havering.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Havering.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Finsbury.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Mountnessing.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit South Green.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Hammersmith.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Hackney.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Latchingdon / Shoreham.
