Events On This Day

Ninth Air Force. 320 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-26 Marauder medium bombers, A-26 Invader light bombers, and A-20 Havoc light bombers, attack rail bridges at Sinzig, Neuwied Irlich, and Euskirchen, military transport depots at Schwelm and Iserlohn, defended points at Wittlich, and targets. Fighters escort medium bombers and light bombers, bomb Neuss and Zieverich bridges and other targets, fly armed reconnaissance, and support Third Army elements from Prum to Saarlautern along the Our, Sauer, and Saar River bridgehead areas.

Twelfth Air Force. During 12-13 February 1945, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) light bombers attack enemy movement in Central and North Central Po Valley. Medium bombers hit bridges at Calcinato, Dogna, and Chiusaforte and bridge approach at Lavis. Fighter-bombers fly nearly 350 sorties against enemy command in North Italy including marshalling yards at Verona, Parma, and Vicenza.

Fifteenth Air Force. In the Vienna area 640 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers with fighters support hit South ordnance depot, South and Southeast goods yards and depot, Central repair shops, and Matzleinsdorf marshalling yard, and marshalling yards at Graz, Sarvar, Zagreb (2) and Maribor (2), Pula harbour, Maribor locomotive depot and rolling stock repair shops, and several targets. P-38 Lightning fighters and P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers carry out reconnaissance and reconnaissance escort missions.

Tenth Air Force. Troops concentrations, supply areas, and targets are pounded by 70 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) fighter-bombers at several locations including Kongpaw, Namtu, Kyaohpak, Laihka, Konwet, Mong Pa, Hkom-nio, and Naung-lang. 19 fighter-bombers support ground forces in Mongmit Myitson area. 16 fighter-bombers knock out approach to main bridge and damage bypass bridge at Hay-ti. 477 air supply sorties are flown by transports throughout the day.

Fourteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) fighters sweep railroad from Sinyang to Hsuchang, bomb approach to Hsuchang bridge, and strafe Sinyang and Ichang airfields. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Hsuchang foundry.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers continue to pound Corregidor as large segment of heavy bombers attack main coastal guns and score direct hits on several batteries. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Mariveles while A-20 Havoc light bombers and P-47 Thunderbolt fighters bomb and strafe targets throughout South part of Bataan Peninsula. Medium bombers and fighters attack small shipping during sweeps of East and North coasts of Luzon. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, with fighters support, hit Kagi airfield.

Seventh Air Force. 25 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Saipan fly two strikes against Iwo Jima, while 10 others hit Haha Jima. During 13-14 February 1945, 5 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, flying individual harassment strikes, bomb Iwo Jima at intervals over an 8 hour period.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Cheshunt.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit High Laver.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Thameshaven.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Braxted Park.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Erith.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Depden.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Wood Green.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Harold Wood.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit West Ham.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Bexley.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Ilford.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Hordon on the Hill.
