Events On This Day

Ninth Air Force. All combat operations cancelled because of bad weather.

Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) light bombers, during 11-12 February 1945, bomb command targets in Po Valley and Northeast Italy, including Brenner Pass area. Bad weather during day restricts medium bombers operations to bombing the bridge at Ala and a sugar refinery at Legnago. Only 1 fighters group, the 57th, can operate, hitting bridges, rail lines, and guns in Po Valley.

Fifteenth Air Force. Continued bad weather restricts operations to reconnaissance and reconnaissance escort by United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-38 Lightning fighters and P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers.

Tenth Air Force. 23 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47 Thunderbolt fighters support ground forces hitting Northeast of Nabu and bombing mortar positions South of Myitson. 4 others support forces at Loiya. 3 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters severely damage bridge at Pa-mao. 60 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters and P-38 Lightning fighters pound supply areas, troops, tanks, and trucks at various locations including Hukawt, Kongtap, Namtu, Namta-gun, Mongmit, Loingu, and Tonsing. 520 transport sorties are flown to forward areas throughout the day.

Fourteenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers destroy 6 locomotives between Suchow and Pengpu and strafe Nanking and Suchow airfields. Other fighters claim at least 10 more locomotives destroyed in areas South of Yellow River. P-40 fighters bomb troops in Hsiancheng area and hit trains on Pinghan railroad.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers continue to pound Corregidor. A-20 Havoc light bombers sweeping South Bataan Peninsula, sink about 30 barges loaded with troops, ammunition, and supplies. Throughout the day medium bombers and fighters directly support ground forces on Bataan Peninsula and from Lingayen Gulf area to Nichols Field.

Twentieth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's complete reconnaissance mission for Navy covering from 135-OOE to 148-OOE and to 30-OON. 21 other B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's from the Marianas bomb heavy antiaircraft on Iwo Jima in preparation for amphibious invasion of the island on 19 February 1945.

Seventh Air Force. 9 Guam based United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound Chichi Jima naval installations while 19 bomb airfields and defences on Iwo Jima. During 12-13 February 1945, 8 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Guam fly single bomber harassment strikes against both Iwo and Chichi Jima.

Eleventh Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers cancel cover mission for a naval force because of weather.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Leatherhead.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit near Clacton.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Beauchamp Roding.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Bayford.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Mountnessing.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Great Warley.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Great Totham.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Dengie.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Walthamstow.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Hackney.
