The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Lancaster's and Mosquitos attacked Cologne for 118th time over l,000 tons of bombs dropped, 7 Lancaster lost.

Russian Front. The Wehrmacht ground forces penetrated Soviet line in Bielgorod area. 304 Wehrmacht Panzer tanks destroyed or disabled and 161 Luftwaffe aircraft shot down.

General Henri Giraud and President Roosevelt reached agreement for equipment of French Army of 300,000 to be supplied by United States of America.

Kriegsmarine U-boat, U-232, is sunk off Portugal, 40-37N 13-41W, by aircraft of 2d Antisubmarine Squadron.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) Wellingtons bomb airfields at Comiso and Catania during 7-8 July 1943. During the day, B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, and B-26 Marauder medium bombers make several strikes against Gerbini and its satellite fields. P-38 Lightning fighters strafe radar installations in East part of Sicily. Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) light bombers hit Sciacca airfield while medium bombers hit airfields at Biscari and Comiso. A-36 Apache dive bomber attack trucks, train, railroads, highways, sulphur plant, and a marshalling yard at several points in Sicily.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack Catania railway station, telegraph and telephone buildings, and industrial area. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Biscari and Comiso airfields and nearby areas. P-40 fighters attack Biscari airfield, escort bombers over Sicily, and carry out sea patrol.

Fourteenth Air Force. 22 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, escorted by 13 P-40 fighters, attack shipping, docks, and cement works at Haiphong.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers continue to pound enemy positions around Mubo and along coast of NE New Guinea, hitting Kela Point and village, Malolo, Buigap Creek, and trails from Salamaua airfield and Kennedy's Crossing to Logui.

Eleventh Air Force. 9 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers fly a special mission to Attu.
