The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Mosquitos fighter bombers bombed Duisburg and Düsseldorf without loss.

In Sicily. Troina, erroneously reported taken on 3 August 1943, fell to Americans forces. Fall of Gagliano announced 125,000 prisoners taken to date.

Russian Front. It was announced that in three days of Byelgorod offensive to date, Russians penetrated Wehrmacht ground forces defences to depth of 15 to 37 miles on 44 mile front. Kromy, 25 miles South West of Orel, captured.

In Australasia. Munda air base captured. Japanese cruiser and two destroyers sunk in naval engagement with United States Navy (USN) surface ships between Kolombangara and Vella Lavella.

10th Bomber Squadron and USN land based aircraft sink Kriegsmarine U-boat, U-615 at 12-38N 64-15W.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb coastal roads near Messina. B-26 Marauder medium bombers and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit road junction South West of Badiazza and railroad bridges North of Gesso. Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) light bombers and medium bombers hit roads, junctions, and buildings in Troina, Adrano, Bagnara, Biancavilla, Tortorici, Bronte, Piraino, and Randazzo areas. Fighter-bombers hit shipping from Vibo Valentia, South to Straits of Messina. United States troops are unable to cross Furiano River as fierce resistance continues. At Troina troops push through town and 1 mile to East before opposition halts them. British take Biancavilla, and Adrano falls as enemy pulls out during 6-7 August 1943.

Ninth Air Force. 60 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Bronte, Catania, and Randazzo and the area North of Adrano-Biancavilla road. Over 20 others bomb road intersections in Adrano and Bronte. Over 100 P-40 fighters attack shipping and shore targets in Messina area while 30 others attack shipping on West coast of Sicily.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, during 6-7 August 1943 bomb Laha airfield.

Thirteenth Air Force. 20 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-39 fighters and P-40 fighters hit Tanagaba Harbour area. 24 B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 24 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, and 50 plus Navy and Marine fighters and dive bombers pound Rekata Bay area, hitting bivouac and supply areas.
