African Tactical Bomber Force (NATBF) medium bombers and light
bombers pound Randazzo, the enemy's key withdrawal point.
Maletto is also bombed. P-40 fighters and A-36 Apache dive bomber strafe and
bomb small craft between Sicily and mainland Italy, motor
transport near Randazzo, warehouse North of Messina, dumps
on toe of Italy, and vehicles and command targets in Sant'
Agata di Militello, Bronte, Cesaro, Tortorici, Castiglione
di Sicilia and Riposto areas. Northwest African Strategic
Air Force (NASAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers in 2 forces
hit Crotone landing ground while B-26 Marauder medium bombers
bomb Marina di Catanzaro railroad bridge and highway bridge
over Angitola River. United States forces improve positions
on North coast in San Fratello region against heavy resistance.

August 1943, small amphibious force lands on coast 2 miles
East of Sant' Agata di Militello, greatly aiding progress
along coast. Other forces begin drive on Randazzo.
Ninth Air Force. 150 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attack Randazzo. Over 140 P-40
fighters attack shipping at Messina and in the Straits, and
shipping and shore supply stores along Northeast coast of
Sicily.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) YB-40
heavily armed escort bombers on armed reconnaissance from
Sinti to Yoyang to Sienning, strafe and bomb several targets;
3 locomotives are exploded and another damaged, a water tank
is knocked down, and several railroad stations are heavily
damaged. 4 other P-40 fighters attack convoy East of Hong
Kongcomer 1 freighter is hit amidships, causing heavy damage,
2 other vessels are also effectively damaged.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers pound Dagua But, and Tadji. A-20 Havoc
light bombers hit barges on Bubui River. B-26 Marauder medium
bombers bomb Cape Gloucester airfield while B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers sweep along North West coast, bombing and strafing
barges and enemy occupied villages.
Thirteenth Air Force. 24 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, along with 20 P-40 fighters
and P-39 fighters and more than 20 Navy F4U Corsair fighter,
pound Kahili airfield. Allied aeroplanes claim more than 30
Japanese shot down. 6 United States aircraft are lost.
