in 1 day during Sicilian campaign, attack Messina Riposto,

and in Straits of Messina.
Tenth Air Force. 2 flights of United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers blast the previously
bombed Mu River bridge between Ywataung and Monywa. The bridge
is hit heavily with 1 span left submerged in the river.
Fourteenth Air Force. 18 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, with fighters escort, bomb shipping
and dockyard installations at Hong Kong. Kowloon and Taikoo
Docks and the old Royal Navy yards are hit. 4 P-40 fighters
attack Japanese force of 23 bombers and 30 fighters attacking
Hengyang. 1 Japanese fighters is downed.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17
Flying Fortress heavy bombers, B-24 Liberator heavy bombers,
and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Kela Point and village,
and Salamaua town and peninsula area. B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers, B-26 Marauder medium bombers, and a B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers attack Army Headquarters, barges, and villages
in Natamo vicinity, shipping off Cape Gloucester, and barges
off Cape Dampier, in Borgen Bay, and along coast from Ring
Ring Plantation to Roebuck Point. P-40 fighters strafe targets.
