In night action near Dunkirk our light coastal forces set
four trawlers and two coastal craft on fire, one Royal Naval
gunboat was lost.
Russian Front. Heavy fighting still in progress Northeast

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). During
27-28
May 1943, Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) Wellingtons
bomb Villacidro, Decimomannu, and Elmas airfields. During
day, P-40 fighters hit Pantelleria, B-17 Flying Fortress heavy
bombers bomb oil refinery, marshalling yard, harbour, and
shipbuilding yards at Leghorn, while medium bombers attack
airfields of Sciacca, Castelvetrano, Milo, and Bo Rizzo. Northwest
African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) A-20 Havoc light bombers
bomb Pantelleria.
Ninth Air Force. During
27-28
May 1943, The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Liberators, under
IX Bomber Command, bomb Augusta. During day, B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers of 2 groups hit Foggia airfield and surrounding
area.
Fourteenth Air Force. 16 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-40 fighters, operating in 2 forces, dive-bomb railroad yards
at Yoyang. Tracks, warehouses, and the roundhouse are damaged.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17
Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
attack Wewak, Dagua, and Boram airfields and bomb Wewak-Dagua
coast road.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-38 Lightning fighters and P-40 fighters, along with naval
aircraft, attempt strike on Kolombangara area and Munda but
are hampered by bad weather. Some of the dive bombers (Navy
torpedo Bomber) manage to bomb runway and revetment area at
Munda.
Seventh Air Force. 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Canton Island fly reconnaissance
bombing mission over Abemama Island, dropping 6 500 lb bombs.
