Pass in Central Tunisia. In the south, the British Eighth
Army occupied Medenine without opposition.
In the Mediterranean. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
heavy bombers made daylight raid on Naples and Crotone, Palermo
harbour bombed by night.
Russian Front. Soviet troops occupied Krasnograd and Pavlograd
in the Ukraine.
Twelfth Air Force. Weather again severely limits operations.
A handful of P-39 fighters strafe trucks and half-tracks in
Kasserine area as enemy breaks through Kasserine Pass and
thrusts North and West toward Thala and Tebessa.
Ninth Air Force. During
19-20
February 1943, The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Liberators
bomb Heraklion, Kastelli and Pediada airfields. B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers bomb Crotone, Naples, Amantea, Palmi, Nicotera,
and Rosarno.
Tenth Air Force. 17 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40
fighters bomb factory, oil tanks, and railroad tracks at Sahmaw.
13 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack Gokteik Viaduct but
fail to damage the structure.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17
Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb landing strips at Kahili
and at Ballale Island, and Gasmata airfield.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and Navy PBY's bomb Ballale
Island and Kahili. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound Vila.
During
19-20
February 1943 and day strikes, P-39 fighters and Navy aeroplanes
attack Munda area, hitting airfield and nearby Lambeti and
Munda Point.
Seventh Air Force. 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, from Canton Island, photograph
Makin, Abaiang, and Tarawa, and attack shipping at Tarawa.
Eleventh Air Force. Reconnaissance over Kiska finds weather
favourable. Therefore 5 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 7 B-25
Mitchell medium bombers and 8 P-38 Lightning fighters take
off. The fighters blast Main Camp area. The bombers bomb North
Head, Camp area, and runway.
