The British Admiralty announced the loss of the trawler HMS
Adonis which was torpedoed by Kriegsmarine E-boats off Lowestoft
on
15 April 1943.
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bomber made daylight attacks
on Boulogne, Cherbourg and Zeebrugge. By night heavy bombers
raided Stettin and Rostock, Mosquitoes attacked Berlin, Soviet
air force bombed Tilsit.
North Africa. Enfidaville occupied by the British Eighth Army.
Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic
Air Force (NASAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-25
Mitchell medium bombers bomb landing grounds of Mabtouha,
La Marsa, La Sebala, Sidi Ahmed, Creteville, and near Protville.
Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) fighters fly
escort, carry out reconnaissance, and attack various Tunisian
airfields. Northwest African Coastal Air Force (NACAF) continues
sea patrols and reconnaissance as far reaching as the approaches
to Naples.
Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40
fighters fly sweeps, reconnaissance, and fighter-bomber missions
as British ground forces take Enfidaville and push North Forces
on left are checked by stubborn enemy resistance at Djebel
Garci.
Tenth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers bomb engine sheds at Thazai.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17
Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Wewak, Nubia, and Boram
airfields and shipping off Wewak. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
bomb Kaimana and targets on Kendari Island.
Seventh Air Force. 22 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, from Funafuti, carry out photo-bombing
mission over Nauru. Several direct hits on runways and dispersal
areas are claimed.
Eleventh Air Force. 10 bombing and strafing missions by 15
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 16 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
, 10 P-38 Lightning fighters, and 32 P-40 fighters hit shipping
in harbour at Kiska and gun positions in North Head. Other
targets include buildings in Main Camp area and runway.
