Events On This Day

Strong force of E-boats off east coast was routed by the Royal Navies light naval forces.

North Africa. First Army repelled Afrika Corps counter-attacks and held Jebel Ang.

In the Mediterranean. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers attacked Naples and Messina by night.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) Wellingtons bomb Decimomannu, Villacidro, and Elmas airfields during 14-15 April 1943. Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) fighters attack tanks and trucks at Oum El Djema and concentration near Sidi Ahmed, while others fly reconnaissance and patrols during the day. Northwest African Coastal Air Force (NACAF) B-26 Marauder medium bombers on armed reconnaissance of Naples area attack vessel South of Ustica Island.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack Catania and Palermo. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit airfields and area near fuel dump at Sainte-Marie du Zit. P-40 fighters fly reconnaissance and sea patrol. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Liberators, under IX Bomber Command, hit Naples and Messina.

Tenth Air Force. 10 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Mandalay marshalling yard, 9 more bomb marshalling yard at Ywataung. 8 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Thilawa oil refinery while 7 others hit Prome.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb airfields at Rabaul, Gasmata, and Lae.

Eleventh Air Force. Reconnaissance over Kiska, Attu, Semichis, and Agattu spots no new enemy activities. 2 bomber missions from Adak and 11 fighters missions from Amchitka, composed of 23 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 20 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, 25 P-38 Lightning fighters, and 44 P-40 fighters, hit Kiska. 1 F-5A reconnaissance aircraft takes photos. 85 tons of bombs are dropped. Fires result on North Head and Little Kiska. 1 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers shot down in flames, 4 bombers receive battle damage.
