Fourteenth Air Force. 11 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 2 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers,
and 4 P-40 fighters attack docks at Kowloon. 2 B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers damage 2 freighters near Nampang and Saint
John Islands, 2 more score hits on tanker off China coast
South of Swatow, and 2 others bomb barracks and warehouse
on Nampang Island. 6 P-40 fighters on armed reconnaissance
in Yen Bay Dong Cuong area strafe railroad stations and barracks.
1 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 12 P-40 fighters hit cavalry
unit, barge, houses, and numerous sampans at Shihmen. Li-Chou
area also is attacked.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers hit installations near Finschhafen
and bomb and strafe coastal track West of Reiss Point. P-39
fighters, with P-40 fighters covering, strafe barges from
Saidor to Madang. P-38 Lightning fighters battle large force
of fighters over Wewak, destroying 6. 2 P-38 Lightning fighters
are lost.
Thirteenth Air Force. During
15-16
November 1943 P-70 Havoc night fighters harass Kahili airfield.
In daylight, 20 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 4 B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers pound Ruka airfield, 20 other B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers fly sweeps over areas of Bougainville coastline,
Buka Passage, and Sohano Island. Supply dumps and barges are
hit. More than 30 P-40 fighters and P-39 fighters also carry
out sweeps over the area, hitting gun positions and other
targets at Buka Passage, several targets along East coast,
Kieta harbour, Tonolai harbour, and Ballale Island.
Seventh Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers from Nanumea and Nukufetau bomb Jaluit
and Maloelap. Single aircraft hit Kwajalein, Little Makin,
and Tarawa.
