The British Admiralty announced the loss of the submarine
HMS P 3H presumed sunk by Italian mines in the approaches
to Maddalena on or around

January 1943. HMS P 3H was reported overdue on
8
January 1943 when she failed to return to base.
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers made heavy night
attack on Stuttgart and surrounding areas.
North Africa. In South Tunisia French troops occupied Metlaoui,
between Tozeur and Gafsa.
Russian Front. Extremely strong Wehrmacht ground forces attacks
repulsed south and west of Kharkov.
First official reports from Headquarters of French guerillas
told of train wrecking and other activities.
Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). United States Army Air
Force (USAAF) B-26 Marauder medium bombers attack convoy between
Tunisia and Sicily. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers in the area
carry out no attacks on vessels. Fighters escort medium bombers
and attack guns, vehicles, and tanks in Sedjenane, Jefna,
and Bedja areas.
Tenth Air Force. 7 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers bomb Myitnge bridge, causing little
damage.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20
Havoc light bombers bomb and strafe Vickers Ridge and Guadagasal
area. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields at Rabaul.
Single heavy bombers attack Finschhafen, Cape Gloucester,
and shipping off Powell Point.
