The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Mosquitos fighter-bombers attacked the Ruhr district. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Wellingtons bombers carried out minelaying operations off Texel and in the Frisians, no aircraft lost.

In Sicily. It was announced that Bronte had been captured, and union made between 7th United States Army and the British 8th Army near Bronte and Cesaro. Second United States amphibious force landed east of Cape Orlando, establishing a bridgehead.

Russian Front. In Bryansk sector, Khotinets captured by Russians.

653 British Royal Air Force (RAF) Lancasters, Halifaxes, Stirlings carried out an intensive raid on Nuremberg (South Germany) and plastered the area with 1,500 tons of bombs.

It was announced that the arrival in Canada of Mr. Churchill, Lord Leathers and British Chiefs of Staff.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). General Dunn takes command of Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF) Troop Carrier Command (Provisional). Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) P-38 Lightning fighters bomb and strafe command targets on toe of Italy. Bridges at Angitola and North of Locri are attacked. Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) planes fly anti shipping sweeps over coastal areas of Northeast Sicily and Straits of Messina, carry out armed reconnaissance over battle areas and toe of Italy, and bomb Randazzo. United States Seventh Army forces pursue enemy to point West of Naso near North coast of Sicily. During 10-11 August 1943, 3d Infantry Division makes amphibious landing on coast, outflanking enemy East of Capo d'Orlando. 9th Infantry Division reaches point North of Bronte.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attack Randazzo while P-40 fighters bomb and strafe shipping on South West coast of Italy and in Straits of Messina.

Fifth Air Force. Approximately 20 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound airfields in Salamaua area. 12 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit barges in Lae area and antiaircraft positions West of Borgen Bay. 6 A-20 Havoc light bombers bomb and strafe barges in Labu Lagoon and in Gasmata area.

Thirteenth Air Force. Colonel William A Matheny becomes acting Commanding General, XIII Bomber Command, a position he is officially assigned to on 30 September 1943. P-40 fighters and P-39 fighters turn back about 40 fighters attacking United States bulldozers working on Munda airfield.

Eleventh Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-38 Lightning fighters, P-40 fighters, A-24 Banshee dive bomber, B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb and strafe various Kiska targets. Direct hits are scored on revetments West of Wheat Grove and on gun emplacements, as well as on buildings on Little Kiska.
