German offensive increased in extent and violence. From Forges-les-Eaux
armoured units reached the outskirts of Rouen and Pont de
l'Arche, on the Seine. Germany launched an attack in the Champagne,
along 25 mile front between Château Porcien and Le Chesne.
German parachute troops were dropped North of Vouziers but
were immediately surrounded.
German pressure diminished in Bresle region, and Aumale-Noyon
sector, but was resumed south of Aisne near Soissons. Heavy
German raids around Paris, particularly in the region of Pontoise.
The British Admiralty announced that contact had been made
between British and German naval forces in northern waters,
on
8 June 1940.
