Events On This Day

Russian troops continued process of occupying Bassarabia and Northern Bukovina.

Rome announced that Marshal Balbo, Governor General of Libya, had been killed in an air battle over Tobruk on 28 June 1940.

British foreign office denied that any aircraft of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) was concerned in the crash.

The British Admiralty announced that an Italian destroyer had been sunk in the Mediterranean and two Italian U-boats destroyed in the East Indies.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) again attacked the harbour at Willemsoord. Chemical factory at Hochst, near Frankfurt, was bombed and set on fire. Dortmund-Ems Canal attacked.

Two British light tanks routed 1200 Italian cavalry across Eritrean frontier.

Luftwaffe raiders crossed British coast during the night. Bombs dropped at a number of points, including Bristol Channel area. Heinkel He 111 raider shot down off the coast of Scotland.
