British government gave formal recognition to General, de
Gaulle.
After unsuccessful attempt to negotiate Romania ceded Bessara
and Northern Bukovina to Russia. Soviet aircraft and motorised
columns began taking possession.
General mobilisation proclaimed in Romania.
Channel islands, which had been demilitarised and partly evacuated,
was bombed and machine gunned by Luftwaffe planes. 39 persons
killed.
Coastal Command aircraft blew up ammunition stores at Willemoord,
Holland.
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) successfully raided petrol
and bomb dumps at Macaaca, Eritrea. Effective raid carried
out on desert aerodrome at El Gubbi.
Luftwaffe raiders crossed East Coast during night of 28-
29
June 1940. Anti-aircraft defences were in action. Few bombs
were dropped in South Wales, and near East Coast.
Italians raided Mersa Matruh, but without doing serious damage.
The British Admiralty announced that the submarine HMS Tetrarch
had sunk a German transport off south coast of Norway.
It was announced that the Canadian destroyer Fraser had been
lost off Bordeaux.
The trawler HMS Myrtle was reported mind.
