The British Admiralty announced that the Destroyer HMS Hostile had been sunk by enemy mine.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers made day light and night attacks on twenty-seven aerodromes in Germany, Holland, Belgium and occupied France. During the night strong attacks were made on the synthetic oil plant at Leona and the oil depot at Frankfurtf Aircraft factory at Frankfurt, explosives factory at Griesheim, and various objectives at Hoechst, Cologne, Leipzig, Hamm and Schwerte heavily bombed.

During night of 26-27 August 1940 the British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers attacked Fiat works at Turin and other factories near Milan.

It was announced from Cairo that the British Royal Air Force (RAF) had raided military objectives in Mogadishu, Italian Somaliland, and the airfield of Dessie in Abyssinia Galabat, Metema, Bardia and El Adem also attacked.

Three main mass attacks made on Britain ending with 6-hour raid alarm in London during night. Luftwaffe planes approached the capital one or two at a time, but few bombs were dropped; one Luftwaffe bomber shot down by anti-aircraft fire. Great battle over Thames estuary.

Folkestone raided about noon by strong force of bombers and fighters. Large number of bombs dropped and damage done to private property. This raid followed by fierce, engagement over Dover and Straits.

Two towns in Midlands attacked during the night, fires being caused and damage done to industrial property. Scilly Isles again raided. First German raid on Eire. Four villages in Co. Wexford bombed. Forty-seven Luftwaffe raiders destroyed. Fifteen British fighters lost but pilots are all safe.

Governor of the Territory of the Chad, French Equatorial Africa, announced that.it refused to accept capitulation and would continue to fight on side of Britain.
