The 15. Räumbootsflottille was formed in 1 July 1944 and was commanded by Georg Mergelmeyer, this flotilla was made up of the following 1937-43 Type R-boats and was deployed for minesweeping and security duties.

After the war had ended the surviving vessels from 15. Räumbootsflottille was used to form 25. Räumbootsflottille which was used by The German Mine Sweeping Administration (GMSA).
