History

The R76 R-boat (Räumboot) was built in the 1940s by Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard located in Lemwerder, Germany as a minesweeper or escort vessel for the Kriegsmarine.

And which served in the 1. Räumbootsflottille during World War II.

And after the surrender of Germany was employed in the German Mine Sweeping Administration (GMSA), United States Labour Service Unit C (LSU-C) and United States Labour Service Unit B (LSU-B) which were controlled by the allies.

Career

1941
The R-boat R76 is commissioned.

1941
The R-boat R76 becomes operational with the 1. Räumbootsflottille.

15 September 1944
The R-boat R76 is sunk after being engaged by Finnish gunfire.
Position 60° 05N 26° 58E.

1944
The R-boat R76 is refloated and refitted.

1945
The R-boat R76 serves with the German Mine Sweeping Administration (GMSA).

1 December 1947
The R-boat R76 is seized as a prize of war by the USA.

1948
The R-boat R76 serves with the United States Labour Service Unit C (LSU-C) as the US Leopard.

27 May 1948
The US Leopard is transferred to the Ostdeutsche Dampfsch AG in Hamburg, as the Rhine tug Leopard.

15 September 1953
The Leopard serves with the United States Labour Service Unit B (LSU-B) as the USN 145.

30 October 1956
The USN 145 is renamed to Atair whilst serving with the German Federal Navy (Bundesmarine).

15 April 1960
The Atair is renamed to WBRV and removedfrom active service.

2 October 1970
The WBRV is stricken from naval records.

15 December 1970
The WBRV is sold to the sea sports club at Büsum

1976
The WBRV is cannibalised and broken up, and scrapped.
