History:

The 28 cm SK L/40 (28 cm Schiffskanone L/40) Originally designed as a naval guns by Krupp and they became the main armament of the Braunschweig and Deutschland-class Pre-dreadnought battleships Braunschweig, Hessen, Preußen, Deutschland, Schlesien, and Schleswig-Holstein. Due to the poor performance of the guns during the Battle of Jutland it was decided to adapted them for land use. The 28 cm SK L/40 naval guns were continued to be used throughout World War I as coastal defence batteries and railway guns. The Heer (Army) used two of those guns during World War II for coast defence duties on the Gironde Estuary for the rest of the war.
