September 1944 is activated by Ninth Air Force.
Fourteenth Air Force. 15 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers and P-40 fighters attack bridges
near Hankow, North of Sinsiang, and Southeast of Tayung, knocking
out the latter. 17 other fighters bomb and strafe river craft,
warehouses, trucks, Edgefield, town areas, and general targets
around Hwangkang, Ichang, Hengyang, Laohokow, and Tehsien.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). Bad weather cancels Formosa strikes
and limits operations on Luzon to fighter-bomber strikes against
Cagayan Valley targets. Labuan Islands airfield is bombed
by B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, while other B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and P-38 Lightning
fighters attack gun positions at Balikpapan.
VII Fighter Command. Iwo Jima based United States Army Air
Force (USAAF) fighters dispatched against Kagamigahara airfield
and Meiji abort due to bad weather.
