Eighth Air Force. More than 1,200 United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) heavy bombers hit 6 airfields, 5 marshalling yards,
2 explosives plants, 2 oil storage depots, and an ordnance
depot in Central and North Germany. 15 fighters groups, providing
support, meet well over 100 conventional fighters and 50 jets.
The Luftwaffe fighters attack fiercely and in the ensuing
air battle down 15 heavy bombers. United States fighters claim
over 60 Luftwaffe fighters destroyed including a few jets
against negligible losses. Heavy bombers claim 40 of the fighters
destroyed.
Ninth Air Force. 268 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
medium bombers and light bombers strike marshalling yards
at Northeim and Gottingen, plus 2 town areas. Fighters fly
escort, patrols, and armed reconnaissance, and support United
States 7th Armoured Division at Schmallenberg, 3d and 9th
Armoured Divisions along the Weser River East of Warburg,
VIII, XII, and XX Corps in Muhlhausen, Eisenach, and Meiningen
areas including strong air support against counter-attack
on XII and XX Corps at Struth, 2d Armoured Division along
Sarstedt, Hildesheim road, and XVI Corps between Lippe and
Ruhr Rivers in Essen area.
Twelfth Air Force. During

April 1945, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20 Havoc
light bombers and A-26 Invader light bombers bomb bridges
at Lavis, Ala, Rovereto, and San Ambrogio di Valpolicella,
and several Po River crossings. During the day weather grounds
medium bombers. XXII Tactical Air Command fighters and fighter-bombers,
operating on limited scale, hit Montechino oil field, ammunition
dumps and command targets North of battle area, and gun positions
in Monte Belvedere, Strettoia area in which United States
Fifth Army forces push North.
Fifteenth Air Force. 128 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers attack Mezzocorona railroad bridge and nearby road
bridge, Verona-Parona di Valpolicella railroad bridge, and
marshalling yards at Innsbruck, Sankt Veit an der Glan, and
Klagenfurt. Over 500 heavy bombers return to base without
bombing because of multilayer clouds. 82 P-38 Lightning fighters
bomb Tainach Stein railroad bridge. 74 others sent against
bridge in South Austria abort due to weather.
Tenth Air Force. 95 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) fighter-bombers
operating over and behind Japanese lines in Central Burma
pound troop concentrations, trucks, and supply areas, and
sweep roads South of bomb line.
Fourteenth Air Force. 14 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit town areas and targets at
Sichuan, Hsihhsiassuchi, Neihsiang, Shaoyang, and Nanchang.
4 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb harbours and dock areas
at Bakli and Samah Bays and at Haiphong. 8 P-38 Lightning
fighters hit targets around Dien Bien Phu and along Nam Hon
area. 24 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers attack river, road and
rail traffic in Yellow River area, South of Anyi, at Yuncheng,
and at Tengfeng.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). Bad weather hampers strikes North
of the Phils. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and P-38 Lightning
fighters over Formosa hit various targets. Fighters fly 130
sorties in support of ground forces at Solvec Cove, Villa
Verde Trail, Ipo and Marikina Rivers, and Northeast Laguna
de Bay. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers again bomb Bunawan. Other
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and P-38 Lightning fighters hit
Jolo Island. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Bima airfield.
Twentieth Air Force. 101 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's bomb Nakajima aircraft engine
plant at Tokyo while 150 hit Mitsubishi aircraft plant at
Nagoya. Nearly 30 others hit last resort targets. 91 P-51
Mustang fighter-bombers of VII Fighter Command escort the
very heavy bombers to Japan for the first time and claim 21
kills.
Seventh Air Force. 24 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Angaur bomb barracks area
at Bunawan.
Eleventh Air Force. A United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers flies a radar ferret mission
along the coasts of Paramushiru and Harumukotan.
