Eighth Air Force. Approximately 400 United States Army Air
Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers drop food
at Schiphol and Alkrraar airfields, Vogelenzang, Hilversum,
and Utrecht, in the third food mission to these locations.
Ninth Air Force. No Ninth Air Force operations except tactical
and photo reconnaissance in forward areas.
Twelfth Air Force. XXII Tactical Air Command fighters continue
reconnaissance flights over North Italy, South West Austria,
and as far North as Munich. Fighters destroy numerous aircraft
at airfield Southeast of Munich.
Fifteenth Air Force. 14 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers escort Mediterranean Allied Tactical
Air Force (MATAF) C-47 Skytrain transport aircraft on supply
dropping missions over Yugoslavia.
Fourteenth Air Force. 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers knock out bridge at Singtai and
hit railroad traffic in Sinsiang area. 5 B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers hit railroad cars and other targets at Kaifeng, Hsihhsiassuchi,
and in Tungkuan and Luan areas. 76 fighter-bombers, operating
in flights of 2-4 aircraft, attack variety of targets throughout
South and East China.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). In first Far East Air Force (FEAF)
strike on Amoy area, B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields
and oil storage plant. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Shinchiku
airfield while B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and fighter-bombers
hit Taito sugar refinery, Shoka railroad yards, and Giran
and Matsuyama airfields. A-20 Havoc light bombers and fighter-bombers
continue to hit Cagayan Valley targets and support ground
forces at various Luzon locations. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
and P-38 Lightning fighters support Australian forces on Tarakan
Island. On Borneo P-38 Lightning fighters hit Miri waterfront
on West coast and Keningau airfield in the North. B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers bomb Kuching waterfront on West coast.
Twentieth Air Force. 45 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's bomb airfields at Oita,
Tachiarai, Kanoya, and Chiran; 148 including B-29 Superfortress
heavy bomber's of 58th Bomber Wing flying their first attack
of Japan from Tinian hit navy aircraft factory and arsenal
at Kure, and 86 drop mines in Tokyo Bay, Ise Bay, and at points
in the Inland Sea. The B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's claim
11 fighters downed.
Seventh Air Force. 12 Angaur based United States Army Air
Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Koror.
Eleventh Air Force. 1 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers flies weather mission over the
Kurils.
