(USAAF) heavy bombers attack marshalling yard at Chemnitz,
oil refinery at Hamburg Harburg, and targets including 2 railway
storage sidings and 3 town areas. 587 supporting sorties are
flown by fighters. A group of P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers
fighter-bombers bomb marshalling yards, a tunnel, a rail line,
and a road. 2 other groups escort medium bombers of Ninth
Air Force.
Ninth Air Force. 565 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
medium bombers and light bombers attack 6 marshalling yards,
command centre, ordnance depot, a city area and targets with
aim of obstructing reinforcements and supplies to Wehrmacht
forces being pushed back across the Rhine River. Fighters
escort 9th Bomber Division, drop leaflets in Cologne, Bonn
area, and fly armed reconnaissance over Ruhr and Hamm, Duisburg
area.
Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20
Havoc light bombers hit lines of command in North Po Valley
during

March 1945. Results are generally good. Bad daytime weather
grounds medium bombers. XXII Tactical Air Command fighter-bombers
and fighters operate on greatly reduced scale, mostly in Central
Po Valley, hitting bridges at Casarsa della Delizia, Nervesa
della Battaglia, Ostiglia, and Ostellato, and attacking town
of Vignola.
Fifteenth Air Force. Bad weather limits operations to supply,
escort, and reconnaissance missions.
Tenth Air Force. 50 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47
Thunderbolt fighters support forces of British 36th Division
in Mogok sector and forces of Chinese 50th Division in Mansam
area. 46 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters and 12 B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers hit troop concentrations in battle areas and attack
supply areas, road traffic, and general targets behind enemy
lines. 664 air supply sorties are flown to forward areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 30 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers knock out bridges at Phu Xuyen,
Thinh Duc, Phu Ly, Ninh Binh, and Phu Lang Thuong and damage
bridge at Kep. 2 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, escorted by
8 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters, knock out bridge at Changtuikuan
while 4 bomb Chikhom. 40 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers and
P-40 fighters on armed reconnaissance hit road, rail, and
river traffic, town areas, and other targets in Indochina,
Central Yangtze River area, and elsewhere in South and East
China.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit San Roque airfield. B-24
Liberator heavy bombers with fighters support hit troops in
Antipolo area while fighter-bombers dive-bomb San Pablo, hit
Fort Drum, attack troops West of Fort Stotsenburg, and support
guerrilla forces Northeast of Lingayen Gulf. Targets on Formosa
and in the Ryukyus are hit by fighters on sweeps and B-24
Liberator heavy bombers on armed reconnaissance. The fighters
sweeps are especially effective against railroad targets.
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Zettle Field.
Seventh Air Force. Susaki airfield is pounded by 11 United
States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
from Guam. During 5-

March 1945, 5 more hit the airfield in individual snooper
strikes. 22 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Angaur bomb
Matina airfield.
