Mitchell medium bombers score excellently against San Ambrogio
di Valpolicella landslide overhanging cliff collapses on railroad
by bombing and bridges at San Michele all' Adige and Calliano.
During
4-5
February 1945, XXII Tactical Air Command A-20 Havoc light
bombers intruder missions hit lights, motor transport, and
roads in Po Valley and areas South of Bologna. Fighters and
fighter-bombers fly over 270 sorties against command targets
in North Italy. Incendiary bombing of a truck park damages
numerous vehicles.
Fifteenth Air Force. 730 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
heavy bombers bomb oil storage at Regensburg, main station
and 2 marshalling yards at Salzburg, marshalling yards at
Rosenheim and Villach, and Straubing railroad installations.
6 heavy bombers bomb Comeglians road bridge. P-38 Lightning
fighters and P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers escort heavy bombers,
fly reconnaissance and reconnaissance support missions, and
accompany 25 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers on supply mission
to Yugoslavia.
Tenth Air Force. 35 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47
Thunderbolt fighters support ground forces in Myitson, Hosi,
and Molo areas. 8 P-38 Lightning fighters bomb Mong Long.
60 P-38 Lightning fighters and P-47 Thunderbolt fighters hit
troops and supplies at Kan-loi, Namyang, ManPeng, Pangmakhe
leng, Kwangteng, Mong Pa, and Mansam. Transports fly 554 sorties
to forward areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 14 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers and P-40 fighters attack locomotives
and trucks at Pinghan railroad yards, Hsiang-cheng, and Lohochai.
At least 9 locomotives and an undetermined number of trucks
are destroyed.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). 60 United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers deliver heaviest attack
yet on Corregidor. Support for ground forces continues in
various Luzon battle zones. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers on
shipping sweep of East coast claim 9 barges and luggers sunk
and several more damaged. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb
Manggar and Sepinggang airfields.
Seventh Air Force. 21 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Saipan bomb antiaircraft
positions, defensive installations, and bivouac on North end
of Iwo Jima. During 5-

February 1945, Iwo Jima airfields are pounded by 10 Saipan
based B-24 Liberator heavy bombers flying individual snooper
strikes.
Eleventh Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Kataoka through solid overcast.
A shipping sweep by B-25 Mitchell medium bombers is cancelled
due to weather.
