(USAAF) heavy bombers, escorted by 11 fighters groups, bomb
targets in West Germany, including 11 marshalling yards, 3
command centres, 2 rail junctions, a railhead, 2 city areas,
and targets. 2 fighters groups fly area sweeps in support.
Ninth Air Force. All combat operations are cancelled because
of weather.
Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) medium
bombers score direct hits on 2 railroad bridges at Lavis and
fly good coverage of Chiusaforte, Canale d'Isonzo, and Padua
railroad bridges. Fighter-bombers hit large number of command
targets mainly railroad targets in Po Valley which is also
subjected to intruder missions during
2-3
January 1945, when pontoon bridges, vehicles, and Ghedi airfield
are hit.
Fifteenth Air Force. Bad weather curtails operations for fifth
successive day. P-38 Lightning fighters fly photo and weather
reconnaissance missions.
Tenth Air Force. 10 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers, supported by 12 P-47 Thunderbolt
fighters, attack airfields at Aungban. Troop concentrations
and supply and ammunition dumps are pounded at several locations,
including Man Kun, Loi Hkam, Ngawnga, Chakau, Mulaw, and Man
Pwe. 575 transport flights are completed to forward areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 10 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers hit airfields at Tsinan, claiming
13 aeroplanes destroyed. 6 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers claim
several river steamers sunk in Hankow Chiuchiang area while
6 others damage bridges at Chinchengchiang. 20 other P-40
fighters, P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers, and P-47 Thunderbolt
fighters on armed reconnaissance attack various targets in
Wuchang Hankow and Shwangliu areas, at Namtao, South and South
West of Man Pong, and West of Wanling.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound Clark Field and Mabalacat
areas. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit 5 airfields in Central
Philippine Islands while B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb
2 on Mindanao. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack Djailolo
supply area, while B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Namlea
airfield. Numerous other Far East Air Force (FEAF) aircraft
on armed reconnaissance, harassing raids, and light strikes
attack a vast variety of targets throughout Netherlands East
Indies (NEI) and Philippine Islands.
Twentieth Air Force. 57 Marianas based United States Army
Air Force (USAAF) B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's bomb docks
and urban areas of Nagoya. 21 others bomb alternates and targets.
Japanese fighters fly 300 attacks on the B-29 Superfortress
heavy bomber's. 5 very heavy bombers are lost. B-29 Superfortress
heavy bomber gunners claim 14 kills.
Seventh Air Force. 22 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Saipan bomb Iwo Jima. 3
from Guam, on armed reconnaissance, hit Marcus. During a 6
hour period on 3-

January 1945, 10 heavy bombers from Guam hit Iwo Jima.
Eleventh Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers fly coverage for a naval force over
the Kurils.
