at Hamburg, Bremen, and Wilhelmshaven, and oil storage and
city area at Hamburg and Bremen. 16 fighters groups provide
close and area support.
Ninth Air Force. 337 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
medium bombers and light bombers attack Bad Oeynhausen tank
factory, Munden ordnance depot, Ebenhausen oil depot, 2 town
areas and 6 targets, and drop leaflets. Fighters escort 9th
Bomber Division, fly patrols and armed reconnaissance, and
support ground forces Fighter support is provided for United
States 3d and 7th Armoured Divisions near Paderborn and at
Edersee dam on Eder River, XII Corps North of Frankfurt Main,
XX Corps in Hersfeld and Hanau areas, and XVI Corps in Marl,
Polsum area.
Twelfth Air Force. During
29-30
March 1945, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) light bombers
continue to pound Po River crossings, loading points, and
other command in Po Valley. During the day XXII Tactical Air
Command fighters and fighter-bombers fly some 400 sorties
against fuel and ammunition dumps, stores, bridges, rail lines,
marshalling yards, buildings, motor vehicles, trains, and
a variety of targets over wide areas of North Italy. Weather
forces medium bombers to attack mainly alternate targets.
The B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb railroad bridges or
bridge approaches at San Ambrogio di Valpolicella, Rovereto,
Chiari, Palazzolo sull'Oglio, Legnago, Ora, and Romano di
Lombardia.
Fifteenth Air Force. 60 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers bomb Vienna North stations and goods depot, Graz and
Klagenfurt, Kapfenberg tank works, and several minor targets.
28 P-38 Lightning fighters and P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers
sweep Zagreb, Graz area. Others fly reconnaissance.
Tenth Air Force. In Central Burma battle area 41 United States
Army Air Force (USAAF) P-38 Lightning fighters and P-47 Thunderbolt
fighters hit enemy troops and supplies at Loiwing, Pawngleng,
and Nawnghkio. 7 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit personnel,
supply area, and trucks behind enemy lines in and near Laihka
and at Kongleng. 7 other B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attack
road bridges, knocking out bridge at Loi Putau. Transports
complete 612 sorties to forward areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, supported by 24 P-40 fighters,
knock out bridge at Chungmow. 10 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
bomb Hsuchang, 9 bomb Changanyi, and 9 pound Yanglowtung railroad
yards. 15 P-40 fighters fly escort. 5 B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers bomb Samah Bay area. 2 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
bomb Hankow airfield, 2 bomb Neihsiang, and single B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers attack targets around Fangcheng, Nanyang, and
Anlu. 100 fighter-bombers over South and East China hit troops,
railroad targets, trucks, tanks, supplies, and river craft
especially around Hankow, Wuchang, Kanchou, and Hangchow.
Airfield area at Kanchou and airfield and railroad yards at
Hangchow are hit particularly hard.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Balete Pass and Solvec Cove
areas. P-38 Lightning fighters hit artillery positions in Santa
Fe area. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and A-20 Havoc light
bombers hit Legaspi Port and nearby Little Batsan. A-20 Havoc
light bombers and fighter-bombers continue ground support
missions in Laguna de Bay area and West of Fort Stotsenburg.
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and A-20 Havoc light bombers
support ground forces on Cebu. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers,
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, and P-38 Lightning fighters
hit Bongao Island, Sanga Sanga, and Kuching area.
Twentieth Air Force. 12 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's attack Mitsubishi aircraft
engine plant at Nagoya shortly past midnight during 30-
31
March 1945, while 80 B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's mine
Shimonoseki Strait.
Seventh Air Force. 10 Guam based United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields on Marcus.
During the night 5 others individually strike Chichi Jima
airfield.
