Eighth Air Force. Almost 900 United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) heavy bombers attack tank factory and armament plant
in Berlin, tank plant, marshalling yard, and city area at
Hannover, and numerous other targets including Stendal and
Minden. 8 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers groups fly support.
Ninth Air Force. 215 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
medium bombers and light bombers hit Neuenheerse and Erbach
oil storage depots and 11 targets. Fighters escort 9th Bomber
Division, fly armed reconnaissance and area cover over wide
expanse of German territory, and support United States XII
Corps in breakout attacks across the Main River in Dornigheim
area and 2d and 8th Armoured Divisions in Dorsten area.
Twelfth Air Force. Bad weather grounds medium bombers and
light bombers. Fighters and fighter-bombers are limited to
weather reconnaissance and some armed reconnaissance in Milan
area where they harass comm.
Fifteenth Air Force. Unfavourable weather restricts operations
to reconnaissance flights by 5 United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) P-38 Lightning fighters.
Tenth Air Force. 30 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) fighter-bombers
operating over and behind battle lines in Central Burma attack
troop concentrations, supply areas, elephant transport, and
general targets at or near Wan Hong, Ho-na, Kyu-sawk, Nawnghkio,
and Na-ti. 642 air supply sorties are flown to advanced bases
and over frontlines, where supplies are dropped, throughout
the day.
Fourteenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Haiphong and Hanoi docks
and Bakli Bay barracks. 9 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and
8 P-40 fighters hit river craft and other targets from Yanglowtung
to Sienning. 9 other B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit junks,
storage, and targets in Lushan area and 7 bomb Chingmen. 14
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, operating in groups of 1 to
4 aircraft, hit river craft and scattered targets at several
other points in South and East China. 120 fighter-bombers
over Indochina and South and East China continue to pound
numerous targets, mainly river, road, and rail traffic and
troop concentrations. River craft and airfields in areas around
Kai Tek, Canton, Hankow, and Wuchang are severely hit.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and fighter-bombers hit Balete
Pass tracts and ridges, installations at Santa Fe, and ground
support targets North of Laguna de Bay and in Cavite and Batangas
Provinces. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and A-20 Havoc light
bombers attack troop concentrations at Baguio and Ilagan.
Far East Air Force (FEAF) bombers hit Cebu City area and pound
airfields on Negros. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Likanan
airfield. Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Takao and
Tainan while B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit shore targets
along Indochina coast.
Twentieth Air Force. During 28-
29
March 1945, 10 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-29 Superfortress
heavy bomber's mine mouth of the Hwangpoo River and South
channel of the Yangtze River at Shanghai. About 50 other very
heavy bombers fly missions mining waters at Saigon, Camranh
Bay, and in Singapore area.
Seventh Air Force. 15 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers from Iwo Jima hit Chichi Jima
airfields and defences. 10 Guam based B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers bomb Truk and, flying separate snooper strikes, 5
hit Susaki airfield during 28-
29
March 1945.
