Fourteenth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 4 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers
bomb railroad yards at Lohochai and hit storage area and animal
transport in Pinking area. 100 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers,
P-38 Lightning fighters, and P-61 Black Widow, night fighters pound enemy movement and
withdrawal in Indochina and South and East China, hitting
supplies, troops, river, road, and rail traffic, coastal shipping,
railroad yards, bridges, town areas and other targets at numerous
locations.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Tabanio, Trombol, Sengkawang,
and Oelin airfields. Fighter-bombers and B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers over Luzon where Thirteenth Air Force now provides
ground support aid ground forces in Mankayan area and near
Tuguegarao. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers plaster Japanese
positions on ground support strikes over Negros. B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers bomb Itu Aba Island. Other B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers on shipping search attack convoy at Tsutsu Bay sinking
3 small cargo vessels, a freighter, and a few small craft.
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers on snooper strikes attack several
targets, including various targets in the Ryukyus, airfields
at Tinghai and at Nakazu, and docks at Pusan.
Twentieth Air Force. During 26-
27
July 1945, 350 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-29 Superfortress
heavy bomber's drop incendiary bombs on Matsuyama, Tokuyama,
and Omuta.
Eleventh Air Force. 7 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers successfully hit Kataoka naval
base with incendiaries, leaving smoke columns 5,000 ft high
in their wake. No airborne opposition. Antiaircraft fire is
moderate and inaccurate. Another B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
flies a radar ferret mission over the North Kurils.
