Mustang fighter-bombers group, based on Continent, flies uneventful
fighters sweeps over Heilbronn, Aschaffenburg, Giessen, and
Trier areas.
Ninth Air Force. 27 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-26
Marauder medium bombers bomb Euskirchen rail bridge to interdict
rail traffic South West from Euskirchen, much of which comes
from Cologne and Bonn. The 3 Tactical Air Commands fly armed
reconnaissance, alert flights, and patrols. XIX Tactical Air
Command supports United States Third Army elements from South
of Saint-Vith to West of Saarlautern.
Twelfth Air Force. During
25-26
January 1945, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20 Havoc
light bombers fly armed reconnaissance of Po Valley, bombing
Po River crossings, Ghedi airfield, and general movement throughout
the area. Both 57th Bomber Wing and XXII Tactical Air Command
cancel all operations for the day because of bad weather.
Fifteenth Air Force. Weather prevents bombing operations.
P-38 Lightning fighters fly reconnaissance and reconnaissance-escort
missions and escort The British Royal Air Force (RAF) supply
drop over Yugoslavia.
Tenth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) fighter-bombers
support ground forces in Namhkam area. 140 fighter-bombers
hit troops, supplies, guns, railroad targets, and targets
at Tangtong, Panghai, Man Pwe, Kyaunghkam, Mong Pa, Nalang,
Hsenwi, Molo, Mong Tat, Humon, Tonghkan, Pangnim, Konghsa,
Namtu, Namhsan, and in Nampok area. Transports fly more than
500 sorties to advanced bases and front line areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 15 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers and P-40 fighters hit Chenghsien
airfield and locomotives, tracks, and motor transport at Nanking
and Sinsiang.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit coastal guns on Corregidor
and in Balete Pass. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Cabcaben
airfield area and coastal guns on Carabao Island and A-20
Havoc light bombers attack Grande Island coastal defences.
B-26 Marauder medium bombers bomb Likanan and Sasa. P-38 Lightning
fighters strafe same targets and also hit Padada. A-20 Havoc
light bombers and fighter-bombers, along with a few B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers, continue armed reconnaissance and miscellaneous
attacks against airfields, command, vehicles, coastal guns,
town areas, and other targets throughout Luzon and in Central
Phils.
Twentieth Air Force. During
25-26
January 1945, 70 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-29
Superfortress heavy bomber's of XX Bomber Command mine the
6 approaches to Singapore harbour and at Saigon, Camranh Bay,
Pakchan River, Penang harbour, Koh Si Chang Channel, and Phan
Rang Bay.
Seventh Air Force. 17 Guam based United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Iwo Jima airfields.
During 26-
27
January 1945, the airfields are hit by 9 B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers on individual harassment missions.
