Eighth Air Force. Almost 250 United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb oil storage depots
near Brunswick, Hamburg, and Lauenburg. 5 fighters groups
provide escort. Over 700 B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers
are recalled because of bad weather. 1 group of P-51 Mustang
fighter-bombers bomb ammunition dump.
Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) 9th
Bomber Division hits 4 command centres, 3 marshalling yards,
and targets, including antiaircraft positions. Fighters fly
escort, armed reconnaissance, and missions against several
ground targets. Fighters support United States 79th Infantry
Division as it pushes 2 miles to the East of the Rhine Southeast
of Wesel, III and VII Corps as they begin breakout assault
toward Altenkirchen and in Epgert and Willroth areas, and
XII Corps as it establishes bridgeheads on the Main in Hanau
and Aschaffenburg areas.
Twelfth Air Force. During
24-25
March 1945, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20 Havoc
light bombers and A-26 Invader light bombers continue intruder
missions, attacking Po River crossings and railroad and motor
transport targets. P-47 Thunderbolt fighters, during the day,
raid railroad bridges and lines, hitting targets at Lavis,
Casarsa della Delizia, San Michele all'Adige, Pavia, Santa
Margherita d'Adige, and other points in Po Valley and Northeast
Italy, and bomb fuel dumps North of battle area. 6 medium
bombers missions against bridges and fills in Italy and Austria
are ineffective because of bad weather.
Fifteenth Air Force. More than 650 United States Army Air
Force (USAAF) heavy bombers strike 2 airfields and a tank
works at Prague patterns of bombs also hit 2 other nearby
airfields and an airfield at Cheb. Alternate targets bombed
include Wels and Udine airfields. P-38 Lightning fighters
and P-47 Thunderbolt fighters escort heavy bombers, and sweep
and strafe Nurnberg, Eibelstadt, Wurzburg, Regensburg areas,
and fly reconnaissance operations.
Tenth Air Force. 26 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47
Thunderbolt fighters support forces of Chinese 50th Division
in Hsipaw area. 44 fighter-bombers and 14 B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers attack troops and supplies and hit targets along roads
behind battle line in Central Burma. 557 transport sorties
are flown to forward areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 20 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 150 fighters, operating individually
and in flights of up to 8 aircraft, continue attacks on numerous
targets including river, road, and rail traffic, airfields,
troop concentrations, storage areas, horses, and gun positions
throughout South and East China.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). Cebu City is thoroughly pounded
by nearly 70 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers. Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Legaspi,
and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and fighter-bombers fly numerous
ground support missions throughout Luzon, especially between
Montalban and Laguna de Bay. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
attack Pandanan Island.
Seventh Air Force. 16 Iwo based United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers bomb and strafe Susaki
airfield, and naval and radar installations on Chichi Jima.
16 more follow with attacks on radar station and personnel
concentration on the island. 23 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
from Angaur bomb defences on Cebu Island. During 25-
26
March 1945, 5 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Guam hit Susaki
airfield. Marines complete reduction of final resistance pocket
on Iwo Jima.

launched against England, hit Enfield.
V-2 rocket
launched against England, hit Stepney.
