Provisional National Government of Hungary signs armistice in Moscow with United States, USSR, and Great Britain.

Eighth Air Force. Almost 675 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers attack 3 marshalling yards, a synthetic oil plant, and 2 targets in West Germany. 9 fighters groups fly close escort, 2 others fly area patrols in Duren and Frankfurt Main areas, strafing ground targets.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) bomber operations cancelled due to weather. Fighters fly armed reconnaissance, alerts, and night patrol. IX Tactical Air Command also supports 7th Armoured Division on Dutch German boundary.

Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) medium bombers destroy 1 and damage another bridge near San Michele all'Adige, and score good coverage on Trento marshalling yard. XXII Tactical Air Command fighter-bombers very successfully blast command and fuel and ammunition dumps in Po Valley.

Fifteenth Air Force. The tactical organisation of Fifteenth Air Force becomes fully developed when a supply dropping group, 15th Special Group (Provisional), organised on 18 January 1945, is given control of the 859th (B-24 Liberator heavy bombers) and 885th (B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers) Bomber Squadrons which drop supplies in France, Italy, and Yugoslavia. (In March the 15th Group will be redesignated the 2641st Special Group (Provisional) and with its units attached to Twelfth Air Force for operational control, the Fifteenth retaining administrative control). 345 B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack North and South main marshalling yards and station sidings at Linz, marshalling yards at Salzburg and Rosenheim, and oil storage at Regensburg. Fighters escort heavy bombers and fly reconnaissance and reconnaissance escort missions.

Tenth Air Force. 16 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) fighter-bombers support ground forces along the Irrawaddy near Mabein, Shadaw, and Myitson. 8 others hit ammunition dump at Namhkai and supply dump at Kutkai. Also hit are troop concentrations, supply areas and targets at Kyaunghkam, Panghung, Kawnglom, Namhsan, Loi-kang, and in Hsenwi area. 482 transport sorties are flown to advanced bases and battle sectors.

Fourteenth Air Force. 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit bridge and railroad cars near Hanoi. 3 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attack targets West of Hengshan, 2 hit troop compound and other targets at Chaling and Anjen, and 1 damages a small freighter in East China Sea. 32 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers pound airfields in Shanghai area, claiming 22 aeroplanes destroyed. More than 200 P-40 fighters, P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers, and P-38 Lightning fighters on armed reconnaissance over vast South China and North Indochina areas attack bridges, town areas, rail, road and river traffic, and other targets at numerous points.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound Fabrica airfield and bomb underground storage area at Bamban. A-20 Havoc light bombers and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit railroads and trains near Bicol River and between Calauag and Legaspi. Other A-20 Havoc light bombers and fighter-bombers hit Aparri-Laoag and Tubang airfields, hit artillery positions West of Bong Bong and destroy railroad bridge at Aloneros.

Twentieth Air Force. General LeMay takes command of XXI Bomber Command. General Ramey officially becomes Commanding General XX Bomber Command.

Seventh Air Force. 12 Guam based United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields on Iwo Jima. 5 from Saipan hit town of Okimura. During 20-21 January 1945, 10 heavy bombers from Guam fly separate snooper strikes against Iwo Jima airfields.

Eleventh Air Force. 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Kataoka area.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Upminster.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Canewdon.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Walthamstow.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit East Ham.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Takeley.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Bishops Stortford.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Potters Bar.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Barking.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit East Barnet.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit East Hornden.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Navestock.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Riverhead.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Broxbourne.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Greenwich.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Tottenham.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Wanstead / Woodford.
