Mitchell medium bombers and 6 fighter-bombers hit river shipping
near Hengshan and pound bridges and other railroad targets
around Chushihtien, Sinyang, Kioshan, Kuanshuishih, Hengyang,
Chuchou, Changsha, Yoyang, Sintien, Hsuchang, Saiping, and
Hengshan. 120 fighter-bombers over South and East China hit
numerous targets at several locations concentrating on Liping
and Tungkow areas.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Hozan largest military and
air supply centre on Formosa. A-20 Havoc light bombers and
fighter-bombers support ground forces on Luzon and Negros.
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack Jesselton and Sepinggang
airfields. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Jesselton, Kudat,
and Bintula airfields and support ground forces on Tarakan
Island. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers lightly raid Makassar
harbour, Sidate airfield, and Parepare warehouses and bomb
Bima airfield on Soembawa.
Twentieth Air Force. 472 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's blast urban area of North
Nagoya. 11 very heavy bombers are lost. About 20 enemy fighters
are downed. This is the XXI Bomber Command's first 4 wing
raid as very heavy bombers of the 58th Bomber Wing join bombers
from the 73d, 313th, and 314th Wings in a single mission.
