A-26 Invader light bombers, A-20 Havoc light bombers, and B-26 Marauder medium
bombers, bomb 3 marshalling yards, 2 airfields, rail sidings,
and several targets in continuing interdiction campaign in
Germany. Fighters fly escort, patrols, and armed reconnaissance,
attack assigned targets, cover United States First Army area
in general along the Rhine River from Dusseldorf to Linz,
Rhine, support United States 9th Infantry Division around
Hargarten, cover Remagen bridgehead, and support XX Corps
as it opens offensive Southeast from Saarburg bridgehead.
Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers bomb railroad bridges and fills at
Perca, Vo Sinistrof, Pizzighetone, Salorno, and Sacile. Fighters
and fighter-bombers attack bridges, antiaircraft positions,
ammunition and supply dump, rail lines, various other targets,
and fly close support to United States Fifth Army force as
XXII Tactical Air Command operates over wide areas of North
Italy from the North Apennines through the Po Valley, and
into Northeast Italy. On
12-13
March 1945, light bombers hit railroads, Po River crossings,
dumps, and movement, mainly in Po Valley.
Fifteenth Air Force. 569 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and B-17 Flying Fortress heavy
bombers bomb Regensburg marshalling yard. 3 other heavy bombers
bomb and shut marshalling yard and targets. Over 280 P-38
Lightning fighters and P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers provide
escort and several strafe rail traffic in Germany and Austria
during return flight. 41 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers on strafing
mission attack rail traffic in Munich, Landshut, Regensburg
and Ingolstadt areas and between Vienna and Wiener Neustadt.
Photo reconnaissance is particularly extensive, with 18 P-38
Lightning fighters covering areas of Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia,
Yugoslavia, Hungary, and North Italy. 41 fighters escort photo
missions.
Tenth Air Force. 16 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47
Thunderbolt fighters support forces of Chinese 50th Division,
hitting Japanese positions along Namtu River in Namhsan area.
26 P-38 Lightning fighters hit road targets South of bomb
line in Central Burma. 12 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attack
troop concentrations, supplies, and gun positions behind enemy
lines. 4 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters hit wooded area in British
36th Division battle sector. Other fighter-bombers make ineffective
bridge strikes. Transports complete more than 500 sorties
to forward areas.
Fourteenth Air Force. 7 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers over Gulf of Tonkin and South
China Sea claim a cargo vessel and a large junk destroyed.
13 P-40 fighters, P-38 Lightning fighters, and P-51 Mustang
fighter-bombers destroy a storehouse and damage a compound
at Chingchengchiang and knock out a bridge and hit machine
gun positions and other targets at Lang Son.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit targets in Sarangani Bay
area and effectively hit town of Lagao. Medium bombers support
ground operations in Zamboanga area. B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers, A-20 Havoc light bombers, and fighters support ground
forces hitting forces and positions in Cagayan Valley. B-25
Mitchell medium bombers hit sampans off Hainan Island while
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers sweep Samah airfield. B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers hit installations in West Central Formosa. B-24
Liberator heavy bombers bomb Mako.
Twentieth Air Force. In the third of the Twentieth Air Force's
great fire raids, 274 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's begin bombing Osaka shortly
after midnight, 13-

March 1945. The heart of the city, an area of 8.1 square miles,
is wiped out during 3 hours of bombing from altitudes of 5,000
to 9,600 ft.

B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Guam hit Woleai while 10
bomb Susaki airfield. During 13-
