Events On This Day

Eighth Air Force. 900 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers bomb 7 Rhine bridges, 3 marshalling yards, a rail junction, and targets in battle zone. 7 fighters groups fly close escort while 5 groups fly area support. 1 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers group bombs marshalling yard.

Ninth Air Force. 95 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) 9th Bomber Division bombers strike road and rail bridges at Dasburg, Steinebruck, and Simmern to disrupt enemy movements. Fighters escort 9th Bomber Division, Eighth Air Force, and The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers, fly armed reconnaissance and patrols, and bomb and strafe numerous ground targets. IX Tactical Air Command supports United States VII Corps near Houffalize, XIX Tactical Air Command supports United States III, VIII, XII, and XX Corps elements in Saint-Hubert, Bastogne, Wiltz areas and points East and South near Clerf and Mosel Rivers.

Twelfth Air Force. Bad weather prohibits all but weather reconnaissance and a scramble mission, all uneventful.

Fifteenth Air Force. For fifth successive day no bombing operations are flown. Weather permits only reconnaissance and escort missions.

Tenth Air Force. 10 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) fighter-bombers hit Aungban airfield while 4 others support ground forces along the Irrawaddy at Molo. 20 fighter-bombers hit horses and vehicles at Hsaihkao, buildings at Man Ping, and troops at Mankang and Man Sang. Transports fly 556 sorties to forward areas.

Fourteenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers blast 6 storage buildings at Kengtung. 3 others damage bridge at Hawng Luk. 31 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers, P-38 Lightning fighters, and P-40 fighters hit targets in Wanting area. 16 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers hit targets around Shanhsien, Chiatsochen, and Chaling.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers over Luzon hit Tarlac barracks and storage area, Batangas airfield, and troop concentrations at San Juan, Del Monte, Muzon, and San Vicente. P-47 Thunderbolt fighters fly sweep from Laguna de Bay to Tarlac, destroying parked aeroplanes and vehicles. A-20 Havoc light bombers hit town of Batangas and nearby railroads and highways, and bomb Lucena and Calingatan airfields. Also the North Luzon area is hit throughout the day by small raids.

Seventh Air Force. 14 Saipan based United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Iwo Jima airfield. 2 heavy bombers from Guam and Saipan, again raid the airfields on 13-14 January 1945.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Toot Hill.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Wood Green.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Islington.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Poplar.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Watton at Stone.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Broadoak End.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Chigwell.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Enfield.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit West Ham.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit South Hornchurch.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit West Tilbury.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Hockley.
