Events On This Day

Ninth Air Force. All combat operations are cancelled because of weather.

Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) 319th Bomber Group and a service group, relieved of assignment to the Twelfth Air Force, return to United States. These are the first Twelfth Air Force groups to return directly to Zone of Interior from the theatre of operations. Weather severely curtails operations, but fighters and fighter-bombers of XXII Tactical Air Command score successfully against command targets in West and Central Po Valley, claiming over 50 rail cuts and destruction or damage of 100 vehicles.

Fifteenth Air Force. For fourth consecutive day, all bombing operations are cancelled by bad weather. P-38 Lightning fighters fly photo and weather reconnaissance and escort missions.

Tenth Air Force. 16 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) fighter-bombers support ground forces in battle sectors at Si-U and at Lawa on the Irrawaddy. More than 70 fighter-bombers hit troops, supplies, vehicles, and general enemy movement at Namsa-lap, Longmao, Hsaihkao, Mangpu, Pangnim, and near Lashio, Hsipaw, and Hsenwi. Transports fly 544 sorties, landing men and supplies at forward bases and dropping supplies to troops in battle sectors.

Fourteenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers again damage bridge at Wan Mai-Lo. 35 fighter-bombers pound targets around Wanting and Muse.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb San Jose del Monte area and bivouac areas in North Luzon. Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Legaspi, Batangas and Matina airfields while B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Fabrica warehouses.

Seventh Air Force. 28 Guam based United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields at Iwo Jima. 3 heavy bombers, on armed reconnaissance from Saipan, bomb Marcus. Iwo Jima is hit by snooper strikes during 12-13 January 1945, by 4 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from the Marianas.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit South Green.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Mardon Ash.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Trimley.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Writtle.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Boreham.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Ilford.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Biddlestead.
