Commanding General, is relieved of duty in European Theatre
of Operations (ETO) and assigned to Headquarters Army Air
Force, Washington. He is relieved by General Kepner.
Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) 9th
Bomber Division is redesignated 9th Air Division. No operations
for Tactical Air Commands and 9th Air Division.
Fourteenth Air Force. 19 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 4 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters
attack bridges at Fengstun and Pinyang, on the Song Chu River,
and North of Singtai Pinyang target is destroyed, hit Yungfengshih
and Chingshuping, and bomb airfields at Paoching. 100 to 120
fighter-bombers pounding targets over South and East China,
disrupt enemy movement and supply lines.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields in Canton area.
A-20 Havoc light bombers and fighter-bombers hit Cagayan Valley
targets and support ground action in battle zones throughout
Luzon. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Impasugong, Kalasungay,
and Malaybalay and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers in support
of ground forces attack Kibawe and Tagolaan. B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers bomb Makassar ship basins, shore targets at
Balikpapan on Borneo, and Limboeng airfield on Celebes. B-25
Mitchell medium bombers, with fighters escort, hit Kari and
command targets on Formosa.
Twentieth Air Force. 42 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's hit airfields at Matsuyama,
Usa, Miyazaki, and Kanoya. 302 others bomb Tokuyama naval
fuel station and coal yards, Otake oil refinery, and Amami-O-Shima
naval oil storage facilities. B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's
claim 10 aircraft destroyed.
Seventh Air Force. 11 Guam based United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields on Marcus
in the morning. During afternoon 19 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
flying in 2 forces, hit airfields on Param and Moen.
Eleventh Air Force. The Eleventh and Fleet Air Wing Four execute
the heaviest and most successful joint mission to date. 12
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb shipping targets at Kataoka
naval base, and fly photo reconnaissance over East and West
Paramushiru on return trip. Next, 16 Attu based B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers take off. 1 aborts while the others hit shipping
between Kashiwabara and Kataoka. Heavy antiaircraft fire claims
1 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers . A B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
and a B-25 Mitchell medium bombers force land in the USSR.
