B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Dulmen oil depot,
Ijmuiden U-boat pens, and town of Lingen. 3 fighters groups
escort heavy ominous. 2 groups of fighter-bombers sent against
transportation targets abort because of bad weather.
Ninth Air Force. 320 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
bombers of 9th Bomber Division attack command centres at Kempen,
Horrem, and Euskirchen, vehicle centre and depot at Munstereifel
and at Berg Gladbach, and several casual targets including
rail bridge at Bullay. Fighters escort bombers, fly patrols
and armed reconnaissance, bomb bridges, attack railroad cars
and other targets, and support United States VIII and XII
Corps in Prum area on Prum River and in bridgehead area East
of Sauer River North West of Echternach.
Twelfth Air Force. During
9-10
February 1945, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20 Havoc
light bombers and A-26 Invader light bombers hit railroads, lights, and movement
in Po Valley and Brenner area and bomb docks at La Spezia.
Weather cancels all but 2 medium bombers missions. However,
the B-25 Mitchell medium bombers cut bridges at Palazzuolo
sull' Oglio and Romano di Lombardia. Fighter-bombers concentrate
on railroads in Northeast Italy, and destroy numerous vehicles
in truck park in Mantua area.
Fifteenth Air Force. Bad weather prevents bombing. 12 United
States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
drop supplies in Yugoslavia while P-38 Lightning fighters
fly reconnaissance and escort missions.
Tenth Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers destroy Laihka bridge. 4 others hit
Namsang bridge, with poor results. 9 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters
knock out approaches to Pa-mao bridge while 8 others destroy
half of bridge at Inailong. 15 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters support
ground forces in Mongmit area, concentrating on Japanese positions
South of Myitson. 76 fighter-bombers attack troops and supply
areas at Panglong, Namsangsok, Namtu, Kutkai, Mong Yaw, Mongmit,
Ho-mong, Man Pwe, Namsam, and Loiya. Again transports fly
more than 500 sorties to forward areas.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers again blast Japanese gun positions
while P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers and P-38 Lightning fighters,
supporting ground forces hit command targets in Bayambang
Santa Fe area, while B-25 Mitchell medium bombers in the area
blast villages where vehicles are hidden. B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers, A-20 Havoc light bombers, and fighter-bombers completely
saturate the South part of Bataan Peninsula with bombs during
morning and afternoon attacks, thoroughly pummelling defences
and forces. P-47 Thunderbolt fighters on fighters sweep over
Formosa claim 10 air victories.
Fifth Air Force. General Frederick H Smith Junior becomes
Commanding General V Fighter Command.
Twentieth Air Force. 84 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's, from the Marianas, hit
Nakajima aircraft plant at Ota. 12 B-29 Superfortress heavy
bomber's are lost. 21 aircraft are downed.
Seventh Air Force. 10 Guam based United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Okimura. 6 P-38
Lightning fighters escort photo mission and fly fighters sweep
over Iwo Jima. 17 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Guam,
with P-38 Lightning fighters escort, pound Iwo Jima in late
afternoon, and 9 more make single bomber harassment strikes
on the island during 10-
11
February 1945.
